Ayebatonye Abrakasa is a DJ, artist, writer and Founder/Creative Director of DIY arts platform Irregular Fit (2018-2022) of Nigerian heritage born and raised on Gadigal Land, currently based on Larrakia Country.
Ayebatonye embodies a deeply authentic musical voice and cherishes the symbiotic relationship between dancers and DJ. The dance floor is a space centred on reciprocity. She prioritises the art of mixing within her practice, evident to anyone who has experienced her sets. Her skilful blends, experimentation and smooth transitions between genres fosters an inviting, seductive and energetic atmosphere showcasing her adeptness behind the decks.
Known worldwide for her groove centred cross-genre sets, she’s become a mainstay in the Australian music scene. Traversing time, space and genre Ayebatonye’s signature style blends together an array of global electronic sounds rich with afro rhythms, deep percussive drum beats, house, techno, jersey club and more.
Ayebatonye’s career has enjoyed a litany of successes; in recent years she has been tapped to support renowned artists including Honey Dijon, DJ Bone, Underground Resistance, Skin on Skin, Soichi Terada, Dixon and SPFDJ. Ayebatonye has been invited to play Pitch Music and Art Festival, Dark Mofo, Inner Varnika, Boiler Room Sydney and to close the beloved Meredith Music Festival. Her distinctive style and avid interest in fashion has led to curating soundscapes for the likes of Gucci, Erik Yvon for Melbourne Fashion Week, Calvin Klein, Office Magazine and Incu x Nike Air Max day.
As an artist and curator, Ayebatonye has exhibited essays, sound works, and video projects at various art institutions across so-called Australia including the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Museum of Contemporary Art and the Sydney Opera House. She regularly shares her insights on issues both within and beyond Australia's arts community, offering thoughtful social
commentary through her online platforms, speaking engagements, and podcast series *Four to the Floor: Exploring the Bl(c)k Roots of Contemporary Music. This series honors the legacy of Bl(a)ck artists, past and present, who have made significant contributions to the music world.
